No one brings more passion to white wines from the Edna Valley and San Luis Obispo Coast than John Niven. With over 25 years devoted to white wines in the region, John and his wife Lucy build off of a family legacy that began with his grandfather’s pioneering plantings in 1973. John helped bring Albariño and Grüner Veltliner to prominence in California in the early 2000’s and remains a champion of the SLO Coast as one of the world’s great regions for white wine.

Just five miles from the Pacific, our vineyards benefit from extreme coastal conditions and diverse oceanic and volcanic soils…perfect for producing fresh, mineral driven white wines filled with energy.

At Cadre, our focus is singular: exploring the full potential of cool climate aromatic white wines from the SLO Coast. We proudly do not make Chardonnay, and you won't find a single red wine in our cellar. By dedicating ourselves entirely to Sauvignon Blanc, Albariño, and Grüner Veltliner, we craft expressions that are vibrant, precise, and full of energy. These wines are transparently shaped by our extreme coastal sites, bottling up raw Pacific energy with a deep respect for our home on the San Luis Obispo Coast.e.
